Into the Woods

Late night thoughts… May 19th, 2012

Watching you on stage tonight was pure joy. As D.L. commented to me later, you are so comfortable there.  During your song, there was time enough for me to both watch you and reflect a bit on the past; it delighted me to review the link of years leading up to tonight… I remembered the sweet, energetic toddler and marveled at the competent young man he became. While I cherish the memories of the little boy you were, I appreciate and celebrate your burgeoning maturity. There is no desire to hold you back, to “wish you small”, to impose some outdated vision of your childhood. Make no mistake; you are not an adult. That process will take years yet, but you are well on your way. I am proud of you. And I am proud of my part in who you are.

All the world’s a stage… and you are becoming the lead player in a production of your making. Choose well the stories you tell and the roles you assign yourself and others in them.  I have faith that you will find your way with your usual enthusiasm, confidence, and panache.

Congratulations on a job well done.
